Health related management practices at pig farms of North East India

Abstract

A survey has been conducted among the pig farmers in rural areas of all north east hill states of India about the management practices they are following for the better income from swine farming. Parameters studied are management practices followed including supplementation, vaccination practices, deworming and treatment strategies following. The parameters are tabulated and results are found and discussed. Intensive housing system is followed by 56.22% of farms. 73.09% of animals are supplemented with iron, minerals and vitamins or both. Deworming is practiced in 52.61% animals and 23.69% of animals were treated with antibiotics at one or the other time. 54.22% of animals were vaccinated against Classical Swine Fever. Twenty two animals were not dewormed or supplemented with iron or minerals and vitamins or vaccinated against any disease.
